SPMC FEATURES VIRTUAL TREE LIGHTING & HOLIDAY LIGHTS PARADE

The year 2020 marks the 105th year of the lighting of the tree outside the Sun Prairie Historical Museum and Library. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, the city did not host a tree lighting event as in years past. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t see the tree lit up for the first time, as the Sun Prairie Media Center provided coverage of a virtual tree lighting.

Special programming featuring holiday selections from the Soggy Prairie Boys, contributions from 2020-2021 KIDS-4 participants, as well as a special reading of “The Night Before Christmas” featuring – who else – Santa Claus was featured in the virtual tree lighting video. To wrap up the video, the Media Center provides a virtual trip through the Holiday Lights Drive Thru Parade that took place at Angell Park.

KSUN and KIDS-4 will re-air this program throughout the month of December. KSUN can be seen on Charter Spectrum 983, on TDS channels 13 and 1013 while KIDS-4 can be seen on Charter Spectrum 984, on TDS channels 14 and 1014. Both channels are available for streaming at sunprairiemediacenter.com, on the SPMC’s Roku and Apple TV channels, and on the SPMC’s free app, available for download from Google Play or the App Store.

“We’ve made it a tradition to provide live TV and radio coverage from the annual Tree Lighting and Fire Truck Parade,” said Media Center director Jeff Robbins. “And while the event this year is no doubt different, we are happy to continue to be there for the ceremonial lighting of the tree which I know for a lot of residents really kicks off the holiday season.”
