“Reel Reviews,” Sun Prairie’s very own informative, fast-paced, insightful, intelligent, and funny weekly 30-minute movie review program, is celebrating two milestones: The taping on February 22 marked the show’s 200th episode and this April marks the show’s fourth anniversary on Sun Prairie’s KSUN TV channel. The show has been produced and hosted by Jamison Rabbitt and Michael Roth since the program’s premiere.
To celebrate, the Sun Prairie Media Center is hosting a special screening of the new film “Avengers: Infinity War” at Marcus Theatre’s Palace Cinema at 2830 Hoepker Road on Saturday, May 5, 2018. The afternoon event will begin at 3 PM with the movie itself beginning at 3:30 PM. Tickets will cost $25, with each ticket including a voucher good for a popcorn and soda redeemable at the concession stand on the day of the screening. A portion of each ticket sold will benefit the Friends of KIDS-4, the 501c3 organization set up to financially support the Sun Prairie Media Center.
General admission tickets for the screening are available now at the Sun Prairie Media Center as well as at the information desk at the Sun Prairie Public Library.
“Avengers: Infinity War,” opening nationwide on April 27, is the nineteenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and, according to a poll conducted by Fandango.com, is the single most anticipated film of 2018. The movie, which was filmed in conjunction with its sequel (set to be released in 2019), finds the Avengers joining forces with the Guardians of the Galaxy to stop the character Thanos from collecting the Infinity Stones.
“Avengers: Infinity War” stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as The Incredible Hulk, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange.
Since the premiere of “Reel Reviews” in April 2014, the program has not gone on even a single week of hiatus, with each episode featuring three distinct segments: “On the Marquee,” during which Jamison and Michael review the latest first-run titles and rate each film on a zero-to-five star scale; “Movie Throwback,” during which the two hosts look back on a cult or classic film that relates to a new film discussed earlier in the program; and “Coming Soon,” which features previews of films soon to be released and reviewed. In addition, the two occasionally unveil film-related lists and also cover other topics related to movies and movie-going.
“Jamison and Mike are wonderful to work with,” said Sun Prairie Media Center director Jeff Robbins. “They are incredibly dedicated and committed to the show, they are incredibly reliable, punctual, and prepared, and, most importantly, they produce an incredibly entertaining and informative program. We congratulate them on reaching these remarkable milestones. We hope to fill the theater for what promises to be a great film and a great time.”
On the show’s longevity, Rabbitt says, “Watching movies is something I’d be doing anyways. It’s the best hobby.” Roth adds, “Sometimes it’s more fun to critique a movie than just watch a movie.”
Each weekly episode premieres Fridays at 5 PM on KSUN, which is available on Charter cable channel 983 and also TDS channels 13 (SD) and 1013 (HD). Each episode is also available to watch on demand at sunprairiemediacenter.com/ksun-on-demand.
The Friends of KIDS-4 is a non-profit 501c3 organization that has been established to provide financial assistance to the Sun Prairie Media Center and to help it fulfill its mission of educating, informing, entertaining, and empowering its citizens through programming produced by Sun Prairie residents for Sun Prairie residents.
