Residents in Sun Prairie who have subscribed to TDS’s TV service are now able to view Sun Prairie’s local channels KSUN and KIDS-4. And, for the first time anywhere, the TV channels are available in high definition.
The channels went live to TDS TV customers at midnight on Thursday, January 18.
KSUN – home to live coverage of City of Sun Prairie government meetings, Sun Prairie High School sports, and dozens of locally-produced programs such as “Reel Reviews” and “Talk of the Town” is available on both channels 13 (standard definition) and 1013 (high definition).
KIDS-4, which consists of programming produced and/or filmed by kids participating in the Sun Prairie Media Center’s award-winning KIDS-4 after-school program, is available on channels 14 (standard definition) and 1014 (high definition).
“This is a big deal for us,” said SPMC director Jeff Robbins. “We are very happy to be on TDS TV’s lineup. We’re thrilled to not only have the built-in visibility of the lower-numbered channels, but very happy that our TV viewers will finally be able to see us in high definition.”
Robbins went on to add that while the Media Center made the necessary upgrades to high definition production equipment a couple of years ago, it will be satisfying to clear the final hurdle.
“It’s always been a source of frustration to us that we can shoot and edit a program in HD, but our TV viewers couldn’t see the programming in HD,” continued Robbins. “It is great that TDS viewers can enjoy our studio shows, live programming, and other offerings in the best possible quality.”
KSUN and KIDS-4 channel schedules are also accessible through TDS’s electronic program guide.
“The EPG is a must for us,” said Robbins. “It’s the best way to inform viewers of current and future programming as well the only way to allow viewers to set up their DVRs to tape shows. We are very appreciative of TDS’s efforts to get us on the EPG.”
KSUN and KIDS-4 will continue to be available on Charter’s Spectrum TV Service on channels 983 and 984 and a livestream of KSUN continues to be available at sunprairiemediacenter.com/ksun. On demand programming is also available at sunprairiemediacenter.com/ksun-on-demand.
The Media Center is also seeking businesses who may be interested in underwriting programming on KSUN or 103.5 FM The Sun Community Radio. For more information, go to sunprairiemediacenter.com, call 837-4193, or e-mail director Jeff Robbins at jrobbins@cityofsunprairie.com.
