SPMC BEGINS “THE PARENTING GAME” ON KSUN

The Sun Prairie Media Center is pleased to announce a new collaboration with Christine Bright, founder of the Parenting Game, in a new series of programs imaginatively titled “The Parenting Game.” The 30-minute programs air on KSUN (among other times) at 1 PM and 10 PM Wednesdays and on 103.5 FM The Sun Community Radio at 8 AM Fridays. The program is for any person desiring to foster a healthy relationship with a child and aims to provide information, resources, and actionable strategies. Guests on “The Parenting Game” will share stories from their parenting journey and host Bright will help them share their wins and fails, recognizing that perfect parenting does not exist. Tuesday Night Tunes returns to the newly-renovated and improved Wetmore Park in 2021 with a full summer of great music. Kicking off the summer schedule on July 13 is a concert sponsored by the Friends of the Sun Prairie Media Center which is also serving as a sixth anniversary celebration of the launch of 103.5 FM The Sun Community Radio, Sun Prairie’s community radio station. Playing at the concert will be Madison Mystery Tour, a Beatles tribute band that specializes in accurate live renditions of the entire Beatles recorded catalog. Active since 2012, Madison Mystery Tour has performed sold-out concerts at major venues and festivals. After winning the sectional title against Janesville Craig, the Sun Prairie Cardinals baseball team have advanced to the WIAA State tournament, where Rob Hamilton’s team have earned the #1 seed.  The state tournament journey starts at the Herr-Baker Stadium in Fond du Lac, where the Cardinals will go up against the #8-seeded Onalaska Hilltoppers on Friday, June 25, at approximately 11:30 AM.  If the Cardinals get past the Hilltoppers they will go onto the Division 1 WIAA semifinals and finals at the Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute, where they will play at 11:05 AM and (if they win again) at 6:05 PM on Thursday, July 1.  Want to tune in? The Sun Prairie Media Center is happy to announce that it will once again provide live coverage of this year’s Sun Prairie High School graduation ceremony. This year's ceremony is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 11, beginning at 5:30 PM. For the first time, the ceremony will be held at the new Bank of Sun Prairie Stadium at Ashley Field. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 12, at 10 AM, also at the Bank of Sun Prairie Stadium at Ashley Field. Any weather-related decision will be made by the SPASD by the morning of June 11. At the time of this writing, only two tickets were being allowed per graduate. The SPMC is broadcasting a select group of SPHS Cardinal Baseball and Softball games throughout  May and June. The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association recently handed out their annual awards for broadcasting excellence and Sun Prairie’s own 103.5 FM The Sun Community Radio scored with five awards. Entering in the Large Market Radio category specializing in a music format, 103.5 FM was ironically awarded four awards for its non-musical programming. Heading the list of winners was Dan Presser, whose “Sun Prairie In Focus” won First Place for Best Newscast. Though also produced for video, WBA voters decided that the audio version was strong enough on its own to be honored. “We do Sun Prairie In Focus because there is a place for a local broadcast news program in Sun Prairie,” said Presser. “With the Sun Prairie Media Center, we have an excellent resource for producing original programming, including a news…

On March 2, Sun Prairie City Administrator Aaron Oppenheimer announced the formation of a pedestrian safety task force. Led by Adam Schleicher, the city’s Public Works Director/City Engineer, the task force began meeting almost immediately to produce recommendations to enhance pedestrian safety throughout our community. The Pedestrian Task Force is now preparing a town hall that will be broadcast across several platforms at 7 PM on Monday, April 19. Topics covered will include the vision of the task force, the speed limit change on Main Street, the importance and benefits of speed reduction and eliminating distracted driving, and a discussion centering on crosswalks and right-of-way issues. Wisconsin Community Media, in conjunction with the Alliance for Community Media’s Midwest Region, has announced their annual award winners for the 2021 Best of the Midwest Media Fest. The Sun Prairie Media Center is happy to announce that 16 original shows created for either KSUN television or 103.5 FM The Sun Community Radio are set to receive awards at the fest, which will be held virtually on May 27. Included in the 16 awards were two “Best in Show” winners: Library Director Svetha Hetzler was honored for “Best Cultural /Ethnic Program” for her “Books and Cooks: Book Talks and Tastings” series of short video programs, and SPMC radio producer Mark Gonwa won “Best in Show” for “LPFM radio show/podcast” for his weekly show “Bluesology,” which focuses on delivering the best…
