The Sun Prairie Media Center is happy to announce the return of “Community Conversations” for the second year. “Community Conversations” is a special produced with the intent of informing the Sun Prairie community about what happened within the city during 2021 and what lies ahead in 2022. The cornerstone of the special is the presentation by Mayor Esser and Economic Development Director Taylor Brown of the mayor’s annual “State of the City.” Esser and Brown will look at the breakdown, impact, and distribution of residents’ tax bills, challenges and successes the city had in 2021, what city leaders forecast in 2022, and more. Or should we say “continue” . . .  While both the Sun Prairie boys’ and girls’ hockey teams have ended their WIAA tournament play, as of this writing both the Cardinals boys’ and girls’ basketball teams are continuing their WIAA tournaments, and the Sun Prairie Media Center will be there with all the coverage. The #3 Cardinals girls’ basketball team, coming off home victories over #14 Middleton and #6 Watertown, will take on #2 Arrowhead in a sectional semifinal on Thursday, March 3, beginning at 7 PM. On Wednesday, January 19, the Sun Prairie Media Center hosted its fourth annual Sun Prairie Media Center Volunteer Appreciation Event. The event was held at the Nitty Gritty and was sponsored by the Bank of Sun Prairie. (Prior to 2018, the Media Center had previously honored an individual producer at the annual Sun Prairie Public Library Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon before branching out on their own.) As the weather gets colder, it is time to remember that not all sports are played with a ball. Yes, it is time to drop the puck on Sun Prairie Cardinals hockey! The Sun Prairie Media Center is planning video coverage of a slate of home games happening at the Sun Prairie Ice Arena. Announcing duties will be handled by Dan Corcoran, who has been working with the Sun Prairie Media Center for several weeks now and has quickly become a go-to presence for sports production, direction, and announcing. On Monday, November 1, Culver’s of Sun Prairie held what has become an annual “KIDS-4 Share Night” to raise money for the Media Center’s flagship student media literacy program. The night was a remarkable success, resulting in a Culver’s donation of $711.37 to the Friends of the Sun Prairie Media Center fundraising group. A percentage of all sales at the restaurant from 5 PM to 8 PM on November 1 counted toward the donation total. “Once again the Culver’s Share Night was a great success for us this year,” said Sun Prairie Media Center director Jeff Robbins. “We love working with Alexandria and her entire staff at Culver’s. The Sun Prairie Media Center is pleased to wrap up its coverage of the Cardinals’ very successful 2021 football campaign with a live radio broadcast of the WIAA Division 1 state championship game between Sun Prairie and Franklin. The broadcast will be heard on Friday at 4 PM on 103.5 FM The Sun Community Radio, which is also available on tunein.com, sunprairiemediacenter.com, and on the SPMC app, free to download from Google Play and the App Store.
