Join us on July 19 for a special Concert in the Park sponsored by the Friends of the Sun Prairie Media Center. Playing at the concert will be Nine Thirty Standard, a band specializing in blues to country, standards to rock…the music from your life. Nine Thirty Standard has performed throughout Madison and southern Wisconsin since 2010. ‘MULTICULTURAL FAIR: RADIO REBOOT’ TOTRANSFORM INTO ‘SUN PRAIRIE STORIES’

The City of Sun Prairie’s award-winning program, “Multicultural Fair: Radio Reboot,” will become “Sun Prairie Stories” at the Sun Prairie Media Center (SPMC) as a way to continue to tell the story of Sun Prairie’s growing community. The podcast will launch later this summer. Due to the COVID-19 rates in 2020, the in-person Multicultural Fair was canceled and inspired the Radio Reboot. This was a way to offer programming that still celebrated the growing diversity of the Sun Prairie community while maintaining safety. The program focused on community members of diverse backgrounds. Sara Milewski, an SPMC volunteer, hosted the hour-long, monthly radio show and interviewed guests on their life stories and experiences. The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association recently handed out their annual awards for broadcasting excellence and Sun Prairie’s own 103.5 FM The Sun Community Radio scored with four awards, including the heavily coveted Station of the Year trophy. Entering in the Large Market Radio category specializing in a music format, this was the first year that 103.5 FM (WLSP-LP) won for Station of the Year. “This was completely unexpected, but of course completely deserved,” joked Sun Prairie Media Center director Jeff Robbins. “I think that what we have to offer on 103.5 FM, with community-produced programming, high school sports coverage, and loads of news and information specifically tailored to Sun Prairie residents, is something really unique and special. This year's ceremony is scheduled to take place Friday, May 27, beginning at 5:30 PM. The ceremony will be held in Madison at the Kohl Center. SPMC’s coverage will be seen live on KSUN Charter channel 983 or TDS channels 13 or 1013. If you know of someone aged 9-14 who loves to make videos, movies, or even podcasts and wants help taking their creativity to the next level, then you need to sign them up for these workshops! These workshops are designed for budding journalists, filmmakers, actors, and social media influencers who want a fun and creative way to express themselves. The Sun Prairie Media Center is pleased to announce that it is planning on live radio coverage of no fewer than 31 games for the upcoming Cardinals softball and baseball seasons. Games will be broadcast live on 103.5 FM The Sun Community Radio. Coverage will be split evenly, with 16 broadcasts scheduled for baseball and 15 broadcasts for softball. Anticipation for Cardinal softball and baseball has never been higher as both teams are coming off tremendous 2021 seasons: The Sun Prairie baseball team added to its record of state baseball titles by defeating Bay Port in last season’s Division 1 state championship game, while the Cardinals softball team made it all the way to the championship game before being edged out by Kaukauna 1-0 in the title matchup. 103.5 FM’s…

Wisconsin Community Media, in conjunction with the Alliance for Community Media’s Midwest Region, has announced their annual award winners for the 2022 Best of the Midwest Media Fest. The Sun Prairie Media Center is happy to announce that 18 original shows created for either KSUN television or 103.5 FM The Sun Community Radio are set to receive awards at the fest, which will be held in Madison on Thursday, May 12. Included in the 18 awards is a “Best in Show” winner for programming produced by a senior: SPMC member Tim Hatfield won the award for his short form documentary “The Making of the Wetmore Park Splash Pad,” which documented the construction of the city’s first splash pad. Sun Prairie residents will have some important decisions to make when they head to the polls on April 5. And the Sun Prairie Media Center is offering extensive programming to help residents make those decisions. On March 18 SPASD School Board candidates Stephen Elmer, Lisa Goldsberry, Latoya Holiday, Diana McFarland, and Steve Schroeder will record a “Talk of the Town” forum taped at Sun Prairie City Hall Council Chambers. The five candidates are vying for three available seats. The taping is scheduled to start at 3:30 PM and is open to the public.
